Job Description

Position Title:             Substance Use Disorder Child Care Provider

Reports To:                   Substance Use Disorder Program Director

Status:                            Part Time

Position Summary:

Has the primary responsibility to maintain a safe play environment; required to dress children and change diapers. While the children are playing, one has the responsibility to observe and monitor children’s play activities; communicating with children’s parents or guardians’ about daily activities, behaviors, and related issues; sanitizing toys and equipment; keeping records on individual children, including daily observations and information about activities, meals served, and medications administered; supporting children’s emotional needs and social development, encouraging understanding of others and positive self-concepts. Identifying signs of emotional or development problems in children and bring them to parents’ or guardians’ attention; assisting in preparing food and serving meals and refreshment to children; instructing children in health habits, such as eating, resting, and toilet habits.



  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of you, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Talking to others to convey information effectively.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Being aware of others' reactions and understanding why they react as they do.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Being aware of actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.
  • Insure Prenatal client charts have needed progress notes/paper work so that day care can be provided 
  • Provide transportation to prenatal clients, if needed
  • And other assigned duties

Qualifications and Summary:

  • Minimum 1 year experience in the drug & alcohol field.
  • Certified Substance Abuse/Addiction Counselor, a plus  
  • Bilingual is a plus
  • Valid Driver’s License and proof of insurance is required
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office 2000 and Excel.
  • Experience working with Drug Medi-Cal clients (Adult and Youth) a plus.
  • Understanding of Drug Medi-Cal requirements/process a plus.
  • Must be enrolled into a Child Development Classes (8 Units min.), OR have proof of completion from a Child Development Program   
  • Must have reliable transportation as this position requires you to travel
