Required Skills & Qualifications:

  •  BS Degree in Child Development, Social Services or a related field, or  equivalent work experience
  •  Minimum 3 years’ experience working in the field of child development.  Experience working with substance abusing women highly desirable.  
  •  State of California certification as alcohol/drug counselor or ability to become certified as AOD counselor within a year of hiring

Description of Duties:

  • In collaboration with Director/Assistant Director, develop policies and procedures for the Stork Club therapeutic nursery that are in accordance with current knowledge on the development and care of drug-exposed infants and children. Assist Director/Assistant Director in the maintenance of an optimal treatment environment.
  • Maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries with clients as per professional standards.
  • Supervise childcare workers, coordinate ongoing in-service training, oversee work assignments, and participate in performance evaluations. Provide childcare (including cognitive and social stimulation) as necessary to infants and children. Assist in new childcare staff hiring, orientation and training. Assist childcare staff as needed with curriculum development and with development of individual child service plans. Act as a resource for parents regarding child care programs policies and procedures. Provide referrals, advocacy, support and anticipatory guidance as needed.
  • Develop and present parenting workshops for clients. Teach methods of interacting with infants and children that promote mother-child attachment, and children’s cognitive and social development. Develop and present Life Skills workshops for clients.
  • Perform in-service training for Stork Club staff regarding child development, early intervention, and parent-child interaction. Oversee all required documentation and charting regarding children’s’ activities in therapeutic nursery. Oversee nursery furnishing and equipment and supply procurement.
