The counselor is responsible for providing outpatient day treatment, and targeted substance abuse services for chemically dependent women, men, and their families. May require some evening duties.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Training, Licensure):

  • This position requires extensive knowledge of chemical dependency, addictions treatment and prevention strategies;
  • Registration with CCAPP as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor is required, Certification with CCAPP is preferred;
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work or related field or three years’ experience providing direct treatment to chemically dependent women, men, adolescents and their families preferred;
  • Experience and skill in providing counseling services to diverse populations required;
  • A Master's degree in social work, counseling or related field may be substituted for one year direct counseling experience;
  • The ability to work independently and as a team, strong organizational skills, and the ability to stay on task required;
  • Individuals who identify themselves in personal recovery are requested to have sustained a minimum of (3) three years of continuous sobriety to maintain the agency’s ethical standard for client care.
  • TB test and drug screening are required;
  • Current CPR and first aid certificate or willingness to be trained required with in first (90) ninety days of employment;

Applicants who accept employment must submit to a criminal justice screening and fingerprinting for agency insurance compliance

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

 

The employee’s work environment includes an office setting. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The office setting is characteristic of normal office conditions; while working the employee may be exposed to hazardous materials (including communicable diseases) and odors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or lift. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderately loud.

 

The employee may be in contact with individuals and families in crisis who may be ill, using substances and/or not attentive to personal health and safety for themselves or their homes. The employee may experience a number of unpleasant sensory demands associated with the client’s use of alcohol and

 

 

drugs, and the lack of personal care.  The employee may also be exposed to bodily fluids (blood, urine) and hazardous chemicals.
