JOB SUMMARY 

The Substance Use Disorder Counselor reports to the Program Director and is responsible for coordinating Substance Abuse individual and group counseling sessions in accordance with the requirements of the ISMIP contract. 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1.  Make decisions regarding casework matters.

  2.  Become familiar with the provisions of the contract.

  3.  Participate in all staff meetings and Counselor's case staffing's.

  4.  Provide services to a caseload of clients assigned by the Program Director.

  5.  Schedule all client sessions per the client's Program Plan.

  6.  Participate in the screening and placement of clients using ASAM criteria.

  7.  Conduct assessment and develop Client-Centered Treatment Plan based on the client's current status, needs, abilities and preferences using current Electronic Health Record (EHR) System.

  8.  Update client Treatment Plans as needed and review monthly.

  9.  Document client sessions with case/clinical notes and complete Monthly Progress Reports. 

  10.  Consult with other agencies to coordinate client services.

  11.  Conduct individual counseling sessions with clients.

  12.  Prepare and facilitate large and small groups for counseling, education and recreation.

  13.  Review and discuss treatment plans and discharge plans with the Program Director and the clients outside liaison from the referring agency. 

  14.  Always use all available referral sources during the discharge and completion process to  establish a continuum of care for the client (Aftercare, Sober Living, Outpatient, etc.).

  15.  Coordinate with supervisors pertaining to important matters such as medical, disciplinary and program progress, and always notify all agencies involved regarding admissions, no- shows and discharges.

  16.  Accurately document all services rendered during the course of treatment for each individual client.

  17.  Notify the Program Director and the referring agency when the client refuses to participate in treatment plan or causes any disruption to the program.

  18.  Ensure that services provided meet standards and are in compliance with the Department of Health Care Services (DHCS), contracting agency, and Turning Point of Central California, Inc.

  19.  Serve as a member of the case managing/counseling team.

  20.  Drive on Agency business.

  21.  Think and act quickly and efficiently in emergencies. 

  22.  Comply with all Turning Point Safety policies and procedures, including but not limited to: workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, Infection Control and preventing potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.

  23.  Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at Turning Point. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees also are expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule. Late arrival, early departure or other absences from scheduled hours are disruptive and must be avoided.

ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS 

  1.  Must have a current substance use disorder counselor certification from a certifying body approved by the State of California Department of Health Care Services.

  2.  Must have at a minimum 2 years' experience working with co-occurring disorder populations.  

  3.  Must be certified as a Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT) facilitator OR once employed must become a certified MRT group facilitator by attending first available MRT training session.

  4.  Must be able to facilitate groups and/or conduct counseling sessions during evening hours.

  5.  Current certified training in emergency First Aid procedures and CPR.

  6.  Ability to work effectively with criminal justice system clients.

  7.  Ability to manage priorities and workflow.

  8.  Ability to write substantive and grammatically correct treatment plans, case/clinical notes and discharge summaries.

  9.  Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  10.  Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a dependable means of transportation that is properly insured and operated in accordance with all laws.  Agency insurer authorization is required. 

  11.  Ability to pass a criminal background check.

  12.  Ability to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, general physical, and TB test.

  13.  Must maintain good relationships with consumers, co-workers, government and civic representatives, as well as community members within whom the Agency is transacting business, and relate to them in a professional manner.

$14.62-$19.25/hr
